Objectives
As the population of California continues to grow, the critical
need for reliable water supplies focuses attention on mountain
county resources as integral to meeting this demand. Historically,
the mountain region of North and Central California generates
approximately 70% of the available water annually renewed
though the hydrologic cycle.
However, the mountain counties comprising this region have
not kept pace with developing water supplies to meet individual
demands. This is despite the fact that this region has experienced
a tremendous population explosion, with many of these counties
among the fastest growing in the State. It is therefore of
statewide interest, as well as local necessity, to develop
the capacity to meet current demands of this region while
preparing for future water demands throughout the
State.
Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of MCWRA is to assist and support its members,
both counties and agencies, to ensure reliable water deliveries
of the highest quality water within their jurisdictions and
to assist the needs of the downstream users in a fair and
equitable manner.
It is a goal of the MCWRA to (a) strengthen and assist our
members with their jurisdictional responsibilities, (b) study
and promote the newest methods of reclamation and waste water
treatments, and hydroelectric generation, (c) to be active
in sharing information, issue awareness, education and potential
legislative action or legal support.
