Mountain Counties Water Resources Association Welcomes Nevada Irrigation District to Executive Membership
MOUNTAIN COUNTIES, Calif. July 21, 2025 – The Mountain Counties Water Resources Association (MCWRA) is pleased to announce that the Nevada Irrigation District (NID) has rejoined its Executive Membership, marking a renewed commitment to regional collaboration and mountain county water advocacy in the Sierra Nevada.
Founded in 1921, NID delivers high-quality water to nearly 25,000 customers for residential, agricultural, municipal, and environmental uses across Nevada, Placer, and Yuba Counties. NID’s return to MCWRA brings decades of leadership and institutional knowledge to the Association’s ongoing work to strengthen and protect California’s headwater communities.
“Nevada Irrigation District is proud to once again partner with MCWRA as we work together to protect the vital headwaters of California,” said NID General Manager Jennifer Hanson. “As we face increased challenges from climate change, forest degradation, and shifting water policy, collaboration among mountain counties is more important than ever. MCWRA’s leadership provides a powerful platform to amplify our shared priorities.”
The return of NID reinforces MCWRA’s growing coalition of water and resource agencies dedicated to securing investment in watershed protection, improving water reliability, and ensuring the long-term health of California’s natural water infrastructure.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nevada Irrigation District back to the MCWRA family,” said Justin Caporusso, MCWRA Executive Director. “NID is a leader in watershed stewardship and local water resiliency, and their voice will be instrumental as we advocate for sustainable solutions and a more equitable share of state resources for the Sierra Nevada region.”
MCWRA currently serves 52 Executive, Affiliate, and Associate Members across 12 mountain counties: Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Tuolumne, and Yuba.
Mountain Counties Water Resources Association Mission is to promote the statewide importance of Sierra Nevada water resources through advocacy and collaboration.
